Our Vessel is the Canadian Registered "Amy Usen"
She measures 28 meters in length and a 61 ton hold capacity for the fish...
She was built in Pictou, Nova Scotia in 1966 for Trawling Cod on the Grand Banks of Canada's East Coast... We brought though the Panama Canal and into the Pacific in 1995 to be converted to “Trolling“ for Albacore Tuna... Her size and svelte lines have made her a near perfect match for this fishery since she drives through the water very easily and has the ability to Sail if need be...The boat converted well and was fitted with all new engines and a novel screw compressor and extrude aluminum plate freezer system, capable of freezing 10 tons/day compliments of Hans at "Far Excel Freezer Systems". For a while I think she did kind of set the standard for quality frozen Albacore Tuna on our West Coast... |

| FISHING INFORMATION |
| Our fishing method is Trolling...(Not to be confused with Trawling which uses nets on the Ocean floor). About 12 brightly colored Tuna jigs with hooks are towed by the Vessel on the surface of the water. When the fish bite the gear they are pulled mostly by hand, one by one which gives the fisherman a chance to deal with the fish properly and humanely. We learned from Japanese Fishermen and buyers the importance of stunning, bleeding and freezing the fish as quickly as possible after capture...At -40 C the fish is pretty much inert and the faster this temperature is attained the better, for ultimate quality..Thats why the expensive freezer system was installed in "Amy"..The fish are actually better off in the boat than anywhere else because our Cold Storage Plants are unable to attain this temperature... |
